New article
"Baltimore
City Interstates - Cancellations". The information is per a review of a
personal folder of MDOT SHA information about the Baltimore Interstate highway
system, that contains various materials dating from 1977 to 1985. This pins
down the cancellation dates for segments of I-70, I-170 and I-83. While these
materials don't have the exact dates, they do pin it down at least to the
year. The final cost estimates and the reasons for the cancellations are of
interest also.
This article is linked from
"Baltimore
City Interstates".
5-1-2007:
Updates to article
"I-70, I-170, I-95, I-395, I-83 Interchanges". These maps
show plan views of the unbuilt interchanges of I-95/I-70 and I-70/I-170 in
West Baltimore, the interchange of I-95/I-395 near downtown Baltimore, and the
unbuilt interchange of I-95/I-83 in East Baltimore. These are high-capacity
semi-directional freeway-to-freeway interchanges. This update added
information and maps about the I-95/I-83 interchange, and has a plan view of
the last proposed design in 1976. Another new map shows of the eastern part of
the Baltimore 3-A Interstate and Boulevard System, with the the proposed 3-A
system design as of December 1970, and this includes the I-95 high-level
double-decked harbor bridge near Fort McHenry, the I-83 elevated freeway in
the northern part of the Fells Point neighborhood, and an earlier design of
the I-95/I-83 interchange.
