Route 895 Construction - June 2001
Here's more photos of Route 895 under construction, taken late May, 2001. First two provided 6-1-01 by Virginia Department of Transportation, and posted with their permission. Second two taken May 26, 2001 by myself (Scott K.).
Above, looking across river westward, west pier of main span of James River Bridge, and approach viaduct; looking at the construction of the main span of the James River Bridge, being built by the cast-in-place balanced cantilever method. The two elevated ramps that will join the main span, are, to the left, Ramp E, which is the ramp from I-95 northbound to Route 895 eastbound; and to the right, Ramp H, which is the ramp from Route 895 westbound to I-95 northbound.

Above, looking south, main span of Route 895 James River Bridge, under construction. Ramp at top left is Ramp H, which is the ramp from Route 895 westbound to I-95 northbound. The ramp begins on the main span of the Route 895 James River Bridge.
Above, west abutment and west approach to the Route 895 James River Bridge. Notice that the eastbound approach span superstructure has been built, and construction is starting on the westbound approach span. The ramp that I am on is the relocated ramp from I-95 southbound to VA-150 Chippenham Parkway. The mainline concrete box girder approach spans are being built by the pre-cast post-tensioned segmental method, with the segments being placed by the overhead launching truss which is visible as the yellow structure above the approach spans.
