Route 895 Construction - October 2001 - Photos 13-15

The three photos on this page were taken on October 9th while I was on an ASHE field trip to the project.

Above, I'm standing on the eastbound span of the main span of the James River Bridge, looking west. In the center of the photo is the west pier of the westbound main span, and the form traveler on the east side is ready to begin the balanced cantilever cast-in-place segmental construction. I-95 and its ramps are visible in the lower right of the photo, and Ramp H, the ramp from westbound Route 895 to northbound I-95, is visible in the upper right of the photo.

The roadway slab is at the top, and the many tubes visible are the conduits that will be used for post-tensioning with steel cables, after all the segments are built.

The pier columns have been built, and forms and reinforcing steel bars ("rebar") are being placed in preparation for the casting of the concrete box structure of the bridge superstructure.
